Being of Finnish descent, complete with a SISU tattoo, I had high hopes for this book. The subtitle "Finding Courage, Wellness and Happiness Through the Power of Sisu" would make you think that this is a self-help, empowerment book. But, it's really not. The author cites several scientific studies and occasionally goes into way too much detail, which went over my non-scientific brain. There were a few interesting take-aways however, specifically the benefits of winter swimming and the impressive education system in Finland.Being of Finnish descent, complete with a SISU tattoo, I had high hopes for this book. I picked up the first season of Suits because I wanted to understand the "buzz" behind Meghan Markle, now Duchess of Sussex. I convinced my husband to watch it with me because I compared it to a short lived lawyer comedy/drama show "Franklin and Bash" that aired on TNT.
While Suits has moments of comedy, it is more of a drama than Franklin and Bash, but still very enjoyable. The characters are intense and like-able, which leaves you wanting to learn more about them and their journey. Ms. Markle is a little shaky as an actress in the first two seasons, but really becomes a power player in Season 3. Gabriel Macht, plays the role of Harvey Specter beautifully, not to mention he is beautiful to look at too lol.
Give season 1 a try and I doubt you will be disappointed.I picked up the first season of Suits because I wanted to understand the "buzz" behind Meghan Markle, now Duchess of Sussex. I first came across this title while I was paying invoices for the library and this book was on the list. The title intrigued me, so I wrote down the call number on a sticky note, which sat on my desk for three weeks. As I was sorting my to do pile, the sticky note was unearthed and I looked up the book to put a hold on it. It was my lucky day since the book was on the shelf and I checked it out.
I had every intention of starting the book right away, but it sat on my night stand for about a week (are you seeing a pattern?). I finally started it while we were out of town on a long weekend. The book is simply written with clear and direct information. After chapter 4, titled "Mindfulness," I had my "ah ha" moment.
Why are our coveted weekends filled to the brim with activities that we don't really want to do? Why do the dishes have to be done before I play with my son before he goes to bed? Why do I feel the need to "keep up with the Joneses" (ironically my husband's best friend is a Jones)? Why can't I just enjoy an afternoon with nothing scheduled?
This book just scratches the surface of living with intention and being mindful of your choices. But, it was a wake up call for me and will hopefully lead to positive changes in the near future. I've already enjoyed rocking my son to sleep for just a little longer than necessary, just because I want to.I first came across this title while I was paying invoices for the library and this book was on the list. I am likely not the target audience for this album (white, female, married, pushing 40) but I have to say, I love it!
I was a fan of Eminem's music in my younger, single years but not so much recently. I'm not even sure why I picked up the CD from the library, but I am happy I did. His collaborations with Beyonce, Pink and Ed Sheeran are fantastic. The sampling of Joan Jett's "I Love Rock and Roll" (for the second time) on the song "Remind Me" will have you nodding your head and singing along as you sit in traffic. The sample of "Zombie" by the Cranberries on "In Your Head" will give you goosebumps, especially hearing the late Dolores O'Riordan's haunting voice.
This "Rolling Stones" article from December 15, 2017 when the album was released gives a good description of the tracks and what this album is about: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/eminems-revival-a-track-by-track-guide-124053/I am likely not the target audience for this album (white, female, married, pushing 40) but I have to say, I love it!

The poor Poky Little Puppy is always getting into things he shouldn't and he is always late for dinner. This will always be a favorite of mine as my younger brother would say at the end of the book "I don't hate baths either!"

This book is a cute poem about all the things a child wears when he is playing outside in the snow. It would be fun to use a shortened version of the book as part of your child's routine of bundling up to go outside!

This is the story of the 3 Little Pigs as told by "Alexander T. Wolf." The pigs have the story all wrong as he was only trying to borrow a cup of sugar to make a cake for his granny's birthday. With fun pictures and an even funnier story, adults will laugh just as hard as the kids do.

We tried the 123 Magic discipline strategy for our foster son at the suggestion of his caseworker and therapist. We felt that it was easy to follow and understand, even for a six year old! It is a quick way to stop unwanted behavior and was helpful for us as parents to cut the emotion out of the equation. I would recommend giving it a read as it is quick to get through and implement. So, if it turns out to not work for you, there is little time wasted. We tried the 123 Magic discipline strategy for our foster son at the suggestion of his caseworker and therapist. I was raised in a house where Rock 'n Roll is King and country music can stay in the dirt where it belongs. Luke Bryan's "Country Girl (Shake It For Me)" changed my mind about country music forever! This fun, booty-shaking song opened up a world of new music to me. With all the hype of "24k Magic" and the single of the same name, I was expecting this CD to be just as magical as the rest of his albums. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. Other than the fun (and semi funny) "Chunky", the rest of the album is just "eh." "Versace On the Floor" sounds like a bad version of "I'll Make Love To You" by Boyz II Men. And "Finesse" is a poor man's version of Bell Biv DeVoe's "Poison." I recommend skipping this CD and hoping his next will be better. With all the hype of "24k Magic" and the single of the same name, I was expecting this CD to be just as magical as the rest of his albums. From the fun and upbeat "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)", to the soulful and sad "When We Were Young", to the hopeful and supportive "Remedy", to the sexy and sensual "I Miss You", once again, Adele has knocked it out of the park.
